Ethical Systems/Final Study Questions and Prompts STUDY QUESTIONS: Study the following five prompts carefully as I am looking for detailed responses that include: (I.) references to the readings (quotations or comprehensive use of paraphrasing are best), (II.) explanations of any reading references, and (III.) real- world or hypothetical examples as illustration. You should NOT answer the questions directly. Instead, you should treat each individual number below as a prompt for a short, comprehensive essay that will include details not directly referenced by the prompt. The questions I have written below should provoke a deeper reflection taken directly from our class discussions and lectures. 1. Briefly describe the theories on egoism by Ayn Rand and Adam Smith. How do their theories differ and what is the role of competition in this difference? Compare and contrast quotes both of them (Love) dogs adam smith / metaphors . they are same and how their theories differ . What she thinks Ayn Rand thinks of utilitarianism ( doing something to someone else with no return) it is immoral to her it psychopathic in her word Adam smith: what he is saying about monopoly ? compotison to stay alive (( Common stock )) not love , selfishness 2. Explain Daniel Wegners concepts of phenomenological will and empirical will. What is the value of human consciousness if it is decoupled from decision making? define the imperial will + phenomological If we we are similar to robot what is the purpose of having will? Example of it autistic child wants an ice-cream and he step on everyone and everything ( ppl, trash etc) on the beach to get it mechanilstic (how will do with society ? we are social creature ) vs mentelstic ( mind blindbess) what is the value of human consciousness ( phonological will ) ? 3. What is John Rawls famous metaphor of the veil of ignorance? Explain what it means and what it says about the role of the social contract. Describe what does it mean and what is the purpose of government to platy the role . Explain Social contract, equity , and they should treat its citizen equally 4. Explain why games are the type of allegory used to model individual behavior in game theory. What do games say about human nature? Economic life ( calculable life ) games naturally competitive no emotion The prisoner dilemma what its mean example of it Syria 5. Discuss the difference between historical principles of justice versus current time- slice principles of justice. Which model does Robert Nozick favor and why? What nozick say about about that ?
