What do you do? You realize that you need to conduct an investigation into this situation. For this assignment, you will describe the laws involved, the policies that should be in place to address the issues, and the key points of an investigation to create an Executive Summary with recommendations for actions. Laws Identify the laws you will consider in the case and explain whether there are violations. Did Susie have grounds to file a harassment claim? Why/why not? Policies Identify the policies a company needs to have in place to manage a situation such as this. Create those policies and describe the process for implementing/communicating to employees to ensure understanding. Investigation Identify the key parties involved in this case and describe your approach to the issue of confidentiality. What specifically do you do to ensure that you and others maintain confidentiality in all forms (writing, verbal, electronic)? What do you disclose and not disclose to each party? What are the objective and subjective information in this case? 2 Develop at least 2 open-ended questions to ask Janie and Susie designed to uncover the facts in this case. Recommendation/Actions Recommend the actions the company should take following the investigation. Explain the reasoning for each action. Be sure to include: Disciplinary action (if any), Communication with parties (including who will deliver any messages), and Preventative measures to take for the future Executive Report/Summary Provide an overview of the incident, touching on only the key points. Condense the original story to include only the essential information for the Executive. What must be included and what may be interesting, but not key to know? The Summary should contain parts from each of the other areas (laws, policies, investigation, recommendations). Executives want to know the following: What happened? Why is it important to the business? What are the implications or ramifications? What did you do about it? What are your recommendations? You are free to choose the format for the assignment. However, it will likely be a series of documents or a PowerPoint with heavy detail in the Notes section.
