Instruction
Please choose one of the following macroeconomic variables:
1) The U.S. unemployment rate
2) The U.S. economic growth rate (as measured through G.D.P.)
3) The U.S. inflation rate
After you've chosen a variable to examine please do the following:
First, please identify what the variable measure was at the end of the following months: December 2010, June 2011, and January 2012. (For instance, the inflation rate was 2.3% at the end of 12/10, 2.4% at the end of 6/11, and 2.6% at the end of 1/12.....please note these are made up numbers...).
Next, describe the environmental and economic factors that produced the variable measures observed during these time periods (for instance, you may find that the inflation rate was somewhat high during 12/10 because of high fuel prices and inclimate weather conditions, as well as a weakening global economy). Please cite where you gathered your information about environmental/economic conditions during that time (eg., the Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, The Economist, etc.). You can describe what happened during each time period separately; or you can create a narrative about why movements in these variables occurred over time. The choice is yours.
