IN THIS TASK, YOU WILL WRITE AN ANALYSIS (SUGGESTED LENGTH OF 3-5 PAGES) OF ONE WORK FROM THE DISCIPLINES OF VISUAL ART OR MUSIC.

Research & Writing Tips
A1. Describe your initial thoughts and/or feelings about the work.
Describe your thoughts and feelings after you first read/saw/heard the work. What did you think about the work? What feelings did it convey to you? What questions about it did you have?
Write this part of the task before beginning any research.
A2. Describe in detail at least one aspect of the work that most interests you.
Describe one specific thing in the work that interests you. Be specific. Explain why it interests you.

B1. Describe the historical context of the period in which the work was written/created.
What was happening in the world during this period? Summarize the main events and trends of the period when the work was created. Include the dates of the period and describe significant historical events, issues, and/or innovations of the period. (You do not need to discuss the work in this section, just the history of the period.)
Read the MindEdge module for the period when the work was created. Use the Introduction, Timeline, and Context sections to write your summary of the period.
If you need more detail about the period or a specific event or issue in the period, use Google. (For the period as a whole, search the period and historical context or the century of the period (e.g., 19th century) and history.)
B2. Discuss insights into the work that can be gained from the authors biography.
Discuss a connection between the authors/artists life and experiences and the work. How does something in the authors life connect with the subject matter, theme, mood, or other aspects of the work? What insight into the work do you gain from knowing more about the authors life?
Google the authors name and the word biography. Adding .edu or .org to search will narrow your results to reliable educational sites.
B3. Analyze how this work explores a particular theme and/or stylistic characteristic from its period.
Focus on one theme or one stylistic characteristic from the period. Explain how the work shows this theme or style. Be specific and support your analysis with examples from the work.
Read the MindEdge module for the period when the work was created. Use the Themes and the sections on Literature, Art, or Music to select the theme or characteristic you will discuss.
B4. Explain the relevance of this work for todays audiences.
Explain why this work can be meaningful to people today. Be specific about what aspects of the work remain meaningful and how it connects with the experiences of people today.
No research needed for this section; explain your own ideas about the works relevance to today.
C. Discuss how the deeper knowledge you gained through your analysis has informed or altered your thoughts and/or feelings about the work.
Explain how your thoughts or feelings about the work have changed or been confirmed as a result of the research and writing you have done about it. Provide a specific example of something you learned in your research that changed or expanded your understanding of the work.

D. When you use sources to support ideas and elements in a paper or project, provide acknowledgement of source information for any content that is quoted, paraphrased or summarized. Acknowledgement of source information includes in-text citation noting specifically where in the submission the source is used and a corresponding reference, which includes:

Location of information (e.g., publisher, journal, or website URL)
Your paper will need in-text citations and references for the following:
1. The literary, art, or music work you are writing about
2. All information you use from any source (including quotations and information you put in your own words)
3. Any images you include in your task (images are not required, but if you choose to include them, the sources must be acknowledged).
In-text citations: Review your work to be sure that you have in-text citations for all information you used from any source, including MindEdge and the sources where you found your specific art works.
References: Your reference page should include a reference for each source you used in your in-text citations.
