Class- Our discussion related to accounting for assets provided us with an opportunity to review the rationale supporting US GAAP and historical cost valuations. It also gave us an overview of the major differences related to valuations using IFRS. Clearly historic costs are reliable but do not report the current value. On the other hand, "fair values: are not reliable and can be manipulated. The homework focused on accounting for inventory. Inventory must have a cost flow - i.e., LIFO, FIFO, average. As a result, the cost of goods sold as well as the inventory on the balance sheet is impacted by the method selected. In reviewing the homework, it appears that half of you mastered the concepts but half are struggling. My suggestion to those of you who did not score well is to start earlier in the week. If you have trouble with the homework assignment then reach out to me. This week we move to the liability side of the balance sheet. I look forward to another active discussion forum. I am writing to everyone in the class. Some of you have asked for help. Others may want to ask for help but are hesitant. Most of you are doing fine. I suggest always doing the homework as early in the week as possible. If you have no questions, begin the test. You have 2 attempts for the problem test. Everyone is given questions from a question pool so I never know which questions you have until you make 1 attempt. If you feel you need help at this point, reach out to me. I am happy to review your first attempt over a telephone call or an email. then you can make your second attempt. However, clearly, any communications with me hoping for help must be done early in the week.
