Instruction
The writing assignment will consist of papers submitted in at different points during the semester. These writing assignments will be related to topics in Psychology. Because of the large number of students enrolled in PSY2012, all papers must be submitted electronically. No hard copies of the papers will be collected or graded. All submitted papers will be analyzed by www.turnitin.com for possible plagiarism.
These assignments must be typed, double-spaced, and include a header that has your name, the due date of the assignment, the chapter number, and the Assignment title.
The assignments must be turned in on the due date listed in the syllabus for that unit. No late assignments will be accepted.

Improving Sleep
For this Writing Activity you will need to describe the habits of the typical college
student that you believe would interfere with the quality of his/her sleep. Then imagine that this person had come to you for advice about how to get better sleep. Describe the recommendations you would make for improving the sleep quality for this person. Support your paper with facts, concepts, and research.
You may wish to consider the following in your discussion.
why sleep is important (what sleep enables - Learning & memory theory. repair/restoration)
states of consciousness
circadian rhythm, set time for sleep & waking
sleep stages
sleep deprivation - attention lapse, illness, REM Rebound
insomnia
stimulants (caffeine, nicotine), computers/ipads before sleeping, strenuous activities
Approach the essay as “mini” research papers. That is, address each question as if you are writing a research paper. This means you will need to do some “researching” to make your comments. Your major resource for this course will be your text book. That is, before you write and submit any essays, read the text! Also, always list your text as a reference. Include at least 2 additional sources as a reference
ASSIGNMENT FORMAT:
A paper about 3 pages long, not including any reference section
Typed and double spaced, with Times New Roman (12 point font) and 1 inch margins
The header has your name, the due date of the assignment, the chapter number, and the Assignment title.
Proofread for spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors and indent the first line of each new paragraph.
Provide in-text citations and reference any of your sources using APA format
All writing assignments are due 5 minutes PRIOR to your class scheduled commencement time on the date it is scheduled for submission on the course schedule. Submissions are time and date stamped by the University computer system, thus student should make note of this while preparing for submission. Specifically, if your class is scheduled by college to begin at 12noon, writing assignments are due at 11:55am. No late submissions will be accepted. The instructor reserves the right to modify the submission date/time should technology require it.
