Assessment of Personal Narrative as a response to our discussion/and reading about intelligence talents, gifts, abilities, and skills
1. MLA Format (5 points)
A. Correct MLA heading, including Statement of Purpose: WITTY 1: Personal Narrative (1 pt)
B. Double-spaced, Times New Roman font (or other approved font), 12 cpi , 2-3 pages (1pt)
C. Engaging title, centered, appropriate capitalization (1 pt)
D. Graphic included, with one MLA citation(s) of articl-- if necessary (2 pts)
2. CONTENT (25 points)
A. The introduction of the narrative should clearly introduce the topic of your essay and engage the reader (your audience) by using a combination of professional leads and hooks. Refer to your notes from class and the “leads and hooks” document. A clear topic/thesis statement will be present at the end of your opening paragraph. Point of View: First person or 3rd person, with a particular emphasis on avoiding the use of “you” unless the reference is appropriate and natural. (5 points)
B. The body of the paragraphs will succeed in developing the narrative with an emphasis on
Content: a logical progression of focused ideas and precise language. The following strategies will be employed to develop unified paragraphs (15 pts)
Organization: Effective use of paragraph construction to develop main points, including use of supporting detail, with ample illustration of specific examples, and use of transitions to highlight related ideas or further details.
Level and selection of Detail: use of strong nouns, verbs, and modifiers to explain your topic in clear detail with specific examples
C. The conclusion of the narrative essay will succeed in delivering a dominant impression that clearly demonstrates the significance of the topic to the writer. (5 pts)
3. ATTENTION TO BASIC GRAMMAR AND MECHANICS (5 pts)
A. Spelling and capitalization
B. Usage, accurate word choice, possessive and plural forms
C. Basic end punctuation including spacing of punctuation
D. General verb tense consistency
E. General point of view consistency (1st or 3rd person)
4. The writer will include at least one pre-writing activity, peer reviewed rough draft(s), and a LC reviewed typed rough draft, if required, with the final draft by the due date specified in class. (5 pts) COMMENTS:
