COURSE / CATALOG DESCRIPTION
is course is a pre-requisite for Senior Project. e intent of the course is for students to research historical and conceptual references that will guide them in developing a theoretical framework and an articulated design program for their Senior Project.
Course lectures and class discussions on theory and historical precedent guides student in their individual research. Individual students develop case studies of projects that re ect the theory
and historical precedents related to the subject of inquiry in their senior projects. In addition, comparative studies of historical and contemporary art and design projects broaden the perspective and understanding of the relationship between art and architectural theory. Class presentations compare and critique individual research, enabling students to develop their own theories for and focus of a self-determined senior project. Individual appointments with each student to further direct their research and output e orts are also available.
A proposal outlining their senior project is also expected in the form of a program declaration, space needs, diagrams and applicable analysis. e success of the Senior Project is primarily determined by the Senior Project Seminar research that places their contemporary project in a historical and social context and makes it relevant to, or critiques, contemporary design practices.
