Discussion Forum #2
Select one of the theories of health and behavior (HBM, TPB, PAPM, TTM) and write a brief discussion (300 word minimum) of how it may apply to the public health problem you have selected for your course project. Specifically, what would your chosen model suggest you need to think about and address for the public health topic and population you have chosen.
In addition to your posting, you must provide feedback to at least one peer's posting. Provide a quality response that offers critique and/or suggestions for improvement. No credit will be given for responses that simply disagree or agree with a peer's response. Also, please remember to write at a graduate level, which includes a proper introduction, with a thesis, strong content supported with references, if required, and a conclusion that provides a summary of your overall ideas. If citing references, provide a reference at the bottom of your post.
MY TOPIC IS BELOW:
The topic I have selected for this Public Health Policy Intervention Project is Alleviating Misuse of Marijuana and Addiction among Young People in the wake of Marijuana Legalization. Therefore, the project will examine interventions geared towards curbing and preventing marijuana misuse and addiction amidst drug legalization in the United States of America.
This topic is important because it will address the appropriate measures that concerns the growing use of marijuana in America, due to the rise of marijuana use because of legalization of marijuana in America. It is hard to give a blind eye to the effects that can come with legalization of marijuana. This explains why this topic is so important.
The relevance of this topic to public health is that marijuana legalization falls among some of the contentious public health issues in the sense that the legalization is mostly being based on the use of the drug for medicinal purposes. Therefore, this topic and research project is relevant to public health because this project will help to come up with health intervention programs and policies that will go a long way in helping to ensure that the legalization of marijuana does not increase misuse of the drug which can eventually lead to addiction and, other related health complications among the young people of the United States of America.
The target population for this project will be young Americans ranging from adolescence to early adulthood. The sample population will be comprised of participants ages 15 to 25. This is because this population contains the most vulnerable people that have burning enthusiasm to try on new things in their environment such as drugs once they are legalized. Furthermore, this population represents the people that are faced with a lot of life issues ranging from conflicting interests, adolescence, self-discovery issues among other issues that can make them to try misusing the drug and eventually becoming addicted to it.
