  • the first part Answer this1: I want a response to that part The main rhythm of the poem “We Real Cool” is, as you mentioned, based around repetitions of phrases of three beats (“We real cool,” or “We / sing sin”). However, these groupings are visually rearranged, so that the first line has 4 beats (“We real cool. We” and the last line only has 2 beats (“Die soon”). The poem otherwise has a consistent rhythm, and it could have been grouped, perhaps more obviously, into 3 beats per line for every line. This means that the lines are purposefully unbalanced in their allocation of beats. If we think about how content (what is said) and form (how it is said) work together, what conclusions can we draw about this? Is it suggesting that their actions are not balanced, either?

  • the second part I want two response include a question in each one because both I and my friend should respond to this discussion and ask a question: "We Real Cool" by Gwendolyn is a super rhythmic poem. It's short and sweet, and repeat, repeat, repeat. It honestly sounds like it could be a verse in a rap song or something. Also, just as a couple of my peers have noticed, Gwendolyn repeats "We" over and over, and over again. Using the repetition of this word makes the poem more rhythmic and really points out the idea that these "kids" have this mindset of no school, no discipline, no responsibilities. The poem is like the chants of the kids who are striking, "We real cool, we left school, we lurk late".
