Essay 3: Argument
Your Essay Plan needs to be as well-developed as possible, including your thesis statement, topic sentences for each body paragraph, and the reasons and examples you will be using to develop your thesis. You might also be thinking of the types of outside source from the KML databases that you will use to support your thesis points. Remember: You need to use at least one (but no more than two) outside source(s) in your essay. You should also indicate how you are planning to introduce and conclude your essay.
Example:
• Introduction (Basic idea--are you going to start with an anecdote, a scenario, background information, etc...?) Please do not plan to use an outside source in your introduction. The only exception might be an important statistic, depending on your topic.
• Thesis Statement (Issue+Position+Reasons)
Please be sure I have approved your thesis
• Body Paragraph 1: Topic Sentence
• Reasons and Examples
• Evidence--Possible outside source
• Body Paragraph 2: Topic Sentence
• Reasons and Examples
• Evidence--Possible outside source
...and so on for each body paragraph
• Counterargument: Acknowledge that there is one opposing view to your argument.
• What is your rebuttal?
• Evidence?
• Conclusion: How might you conclude your essay?
Do not plan to use an outside source in your conclusion.
