Is it reasonable to think that God exists? Why or why not?
This is an argumentative essay. It should have an introduction and a conclusion. It should be clearly organized so that I can tell what you are doing in each paragraph and how each paragraph is connected to the main conclusion. You should discuss critically at least three arguments: you should defend at least one argument from our reading for your preferred view, and you should criticize at least one argument from our reading against your preferred view. Also, you should critically discuss at least one argument derived from a source outside of our book and class discussion (either for or against your preferred conclusion). By defending an argument, I mean explaining in your own words why you find it persuasive, not just stating the argument or repeating what the book says or what was said in class; by criticizing an argument, I mean explaining in your own words why you find it inadequate, not just repeating what the book says or what was said in class. Be sure to cite your sources appropriately. Think carefully about the issues and show, in your answer, that you have analyzed them for yourself.
Grades: Your essay is worth 100 points (10% of your course grade), and will be graded on the usual scale (A = 90 to 100%; B = 80 to 89%; etc.). Essays will receive higher grades to the extent that they (1) are written clearly and concisely, in your own words, (2) contain logically cogent arguments and avoid obvious logical mistakes, (3) reflect critical analysis of arguments drawn from our readings and class discussions, (4) are well organized, (5) manifest original thought that goes beyond assigned readings and class discussion, and (6) contain correct spelling and grammar.
Citations: All arguments and ideas that are not your own must be cited completely in the body of the essay, and direct quotations must be indicated with quotation marks (and cited completely). You need not consult any other sources besides your notes and your book, but if you do, you must cite those completely. You need not follow any particular manual of style, as long as you include all of the relevant information in some consistent form.
Appearance: They should be between 4-5 pages in length, double spaced. Please do not include a title page
