instructions for Website Evaluations
Most of the time when beginning research, students first turn to internet websites. But, how do you know which websites contain reliable information? This exercise will help you determine the quality of the information and whether it is appropriate for college level work.
First, view this handy tutorial on what to look for when evaluating websites. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFEwwG7rq0E
Another source http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/TeachingLib/Guides/Internet/Evaluate.html
Second, look over the questions on the worksheet that you will be asked about the websites on topic(Civil Defense Agency).
Finally, use Google, Bing, or other search engine to find websites on topic (Civil Defense Agency). Using the criteria on the worksheet and the tutorial, find the site you feel is most credible for a college level research assignment.
Fill out a worksheet for the site you believe is most reliable, answering the questions in complete sentences with proper grammar and spelling. Explain in your answers WHY you answered as you did. What clues did you find?
Fill out a worksheet for a site that you feel is acceptable for college level work. Again, explain your answers.
Finally, find a site that you consider unacceptable and fill out a worksheet, explaining your answers
.
Merge all three sheets together into one document before submitting. You can do this by copy and paste.
Remember, the criteria is not how easy a site is to use, nor how much information it has. The question is about the quality of the information and how you know that.
DO NOT USE WIKIPEDIA FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.
DO NOT USE ASK.COM, ABOUT.COM, BRITANICA.COM OR ANY OTHER ENCYCLOPEDIA TYPE WEBSITE.
