Prompt: For this paper, you will analyze a text that you believe embodies the qualities of important and/or great art. The medium of the text is up to you: films/television, songs/albums, visual art, short stories, poems, video games, etc., are all on the table, though it needs to be a text you haven’t written about before in any class. In what ways is it an exemplary text in its genre? What makes it “great” in your eyes? More importantly, what human needs/desires/characteristics does this text cater to, epitomize, exploit, or mirror? Try to avoid summary in favor of analysis. Dig deep; simply liking something does not make a text great. Be sure to back up your assertions with textual evidence when/if necessary (but don’t overdo quotations). You are not required to employ outside sources, but be sure to cite them if you do.
