Read the account of the flood found in Genesis 6:9-8:22 (Flood Account in Genesis) and look at the mid-15th century woodcut that was included as an illustration in the Christian Bible (Figure 27 from Textbook). Then, read the account of the flood as written by the Roman poet Ovid (Flood Account by Ovid) and look at this mid-16th century woodcut that was included as an illustration for a reprinted edition of Ovid’s text (1513 Woodcut Illustrating Ovid's Text).
For this assignment, you need to perform a visual analysis of both images: suggest identifications for the significant figures and features in each image, being sure to support these identifications using the provided texts (use parenthetical citation to reference either line number or chapter:verse). For any figures, features, or stylistic elements in either of the two images that do not effectively correspond to the text or do not visually recall the time period being illustrated, explain why you think the artist chose to include them and/or depict them in that manner.
Your essay of no less than 400 words is due at the start of class on Monday, Jan. 29th.
This assignment does not require any additional or outside research, but any source that is used must be cited... use parenthesis citation to reference line number or chapter:verse
