Instruction
The homework has three (3) components; write up two paragraphs about each component.
Component 1: Look at the different classifications of urban structure (concentric zone, sector, urban realms, etc.) that we discussed on June 12. Pick one (1) of these classifications and apply it to your city. Here are some questions to consider in answering this question:
Is there a single, dominant center in your city, where the closer you get to it, the more activity you find?
Are there transportation facilities (rail, road, etc.) that dominate the urban structure (recall that sector theory plays heavily upon transportation)
Are different areas growing into one another (a la urban realms)
Component 2: Briefly describe the major economic products of your city. They may be manufacturing, retail, transportation/logistics, services, etc. Which of these does your city appear to depend upon the most for its continued well-being?
Component 3: Briefly describe some of the major urban design components of your city. What are the landmarks? What are some of the other areas of interest? What "channels" (road or transportation paths) exist? Is there a hierarchy of districts and facilities? Are those districts well-defined, or blurry?
