  • this is what my teacher responded to what you wrote: you make some interesting observations here. I feel you're a little harsh on Miss Emily because she certainly would have wanted to get married and live a respectable life, but her father made sure no young man ever got past the front door. By the time Homer comes around, she seems to feel this is her last chance at love, and she goes for it. I'm not sure I understand what you mean about her "keeping her father's course in her own house." Also, I'm curious as to what you mean when you write that she "pretends to be unique in a way she is not." It is true though that her relationship with Homer was quite scandalous in the town because he was a Yankee from up north and because he was from a lower socio-economic background than she.
