Due March 14, 2018 9:30 PST Sociology Reflection Paper #2: Applying Sociological Theory to Mass Media/Social Media (Due 3/14/18) In this paper, you are to write about how the media/social networks can potentially shape public opinion. The reflection paper must be at least 3 full pages, standard 12-point font, and double-spaced. It is worth 50 points. Late papers will lose 10 points for each calendar day late. No exceptions. As always, grading will mainly be determined by assessing your grammar, length of paper, syntax, and how well you follow directions. Required: 1. How does the media/social networks influence public opinion? 2. Use the functionalist theory to explain why social media is functional for society. 3. After explaining the functions of social media, I want you to explain why social media can be problematic using conflict theory. Use examples to back up both theories. 4. Take a position: Is social media more beneficial or problematic for society? Why? 5. You must use at least two examples from the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive."
