B) Outline of Paper:
• 3 page outline with an additional references page. The outline will follow the usual essay format, but its main body is short and may be written in bullet points. You must use third person throughout.
• Follow the assignment formatting and citation guidelines in the syllabus.
• First, provide a working title and a complete draft of your introductory paragraph (no more than a half page), including:
o Opening sentence that catches readers’ attention and introduces the overall topic (“hook)
o Question: What question are you going to answer?
o Thesis: What is the answer to the question you posed/hypothesis you will test? "This paper will argue that . . . because . . . "
o Road Map: Claims 1, 2, etc., in support of the thesis. "To prove this, this paper will consider/analyze/discuss 1, 2, 3, . . . "
• Main body of essay: Provide brief notes (i.e. bullet points) on how you support each claim. Try to already use your own words now, and when you write the essay, make absolutely sure to analyze all materials you use in your own words. Make sure to use citations.
Claim 1 is supported by this and this information, these quotes, these examples, etc. (may be more than one paragraph)
Claim 2 is supported by… etc.
• Finally, state your conclusion by summarizing the main arguments/claims and connecting them to your thesis. You may not introduce new ideas here, but you can provide an outlook for future research. For the purpose of this outline, you may keep the conclusion very brief.
o On page 4 or 5 (depending on the length of your outline), provide a references list that is as complete as possible (a list of hyperlinks is not acceptable)
o MUST include proper citations and APA formatting.
