  • 3. I will use the idea of observations implicit in terms when I discuss the beginning of the movie. Burke explains that there can be words and symbols that frame how we "observe" something and I'm going to show that Moore makes use of this to frame how we observe the administration. I am also going to include some discussion of Burke's concept of reality as he explains it on page 5 and later in Chapter 3. While this is not directly related to this section of our paper, I may end up using some of my ideas from the first paper -- how Miner used language to force an observation about a group.

  • 4. I am going to look at how Moore uses parody to make Bush look bad; specifically, I plan to look at how he superimposes the administration into an episode of a western. He also parodies the coalition of the willing. One of the other things I plan to analyze is Moore's use of narration and how it guides the viewer to think different things. While there are many, many other techniques that Moore uses, I'm also going to spend some time with the general set-up of the first part of the movie and how its presentation helps Moore in his goals (related to observations implicit in terms). Other considerations for this paper are his use of music, his use of interviews (who and how), and his different uses of "raw" media footage. Of course, this may be too much and I'm not sure quite yet what order I will address this, but these are the ones that I believe help him the most.
