Each student will be required to submit a book report on Its Your Ship by D. Michael Abrashoff. This book is an account of how much one man can and must do to achieve operational success through the willing cooperation of others. What makes his story more remarkable is his observation that in spite of his rank he understood that his unquestionable authority was not enough to effectively control and direct the operations of his command. He points out that they are all on the same boat and it is their boat…each member of the crew is accountable to each shipmate for their collective success. He encouraged and empowered every individual assigned to his command to participate in the planning and decision making activities that subsequently facilitate organizational success. Compare and contrast his views with the world as we see it today through our life’s experiences and academic exercises
