Please write the post based on this: Much thought and analysis has been given to the ending of "Hills like White Elephants" and what Jig, the young woman in the story will do about her pregnancy. With specific reference to the text, discuss in a post of at least 150 words what you think she has decided and why you think this. In a separate paragraph of at least 100 words, do a similar analysis of the girl in the poem "In the Orchard." Referring to the poem, tell what you believe this young girl will do and why.

  • this is my classmates post: In the Hills like White Elephants by Ernest Hemmingway, the girl named “Jig”, she is characterized as less straightforward and persuasive. She appears as helpless, confused and indecisive. One example is she seems uncertain about whether or not she wants to have the abortion. One specific example from the text is the girl has looked over the mountains and she has said that they look "like white elephants." Right after that, the argument started and the man says, "Oh, cut it out." She kept thinking she’s right and he started the argument, then she turns into the one apologizing. Ironically, Jig has a totally understanding with her relationship with the American. She understands there are no going back to their relationship even after she has the abortion. She also realizes that she is not loved, at least not unconditionally. I think she will eventually come to a realization and get the operation done.

  • I agree with your argument that the girl in question; Jig has been landed to a state of confusion.As evident, the girl needs support from the man but this does not happen; instead, he recommends for an abortion which subjects her to confusion.In addition, the naivety of the girl is evident through her indecisiveness.The recommendation of the man for an abortion to be carried out should be an eye opener that the girl is not loved unconditionally.Thank you for sharing.
