In a 2-3 pages essay, I want you to define/explainthe crime control and due process model of the criminal justice system. After you define/explain the models form and defend your opinion on how well you think the criminal justice system is at maintaining public order (crime control model) and protecting individual rights (due process model). By explain, I mean who subscribes to it, what are its goals, what type of polices does it (meaning each model) leads to etc. Keep in mind this is one of the major dilemmas facing our CJS, trying to balance our individual rights with public safety (think of the Marranda case as an example of this idea, his individual rights were violated, but if let go/freed he would pose a threat to the public). In the essay, I want you to underline your thesis statement (a thesis statement is a one-sentence summary of the main point or argument advanced in a paper). Stake out a position. Makes a claim that others might dispute. Is usually a single sentence near the beginning of your paper (most often, at the end of the first paragraph) that presents your argument to the reader.
