SETTING: Includes three elements: the time period in which the work takes place, where the work takes place, and the social environment of the work, which can include the class standing, i.e., are they rich or poor; the attitudes of the characters, i.e., are they racist, sexist; and the characters’ ideologies, which are the beliefs that are common to a group. These three elements establish the world in which the characters live, which can be real or imaginary.
