From the material on Symbols, Mana, and Taboo, discuss the types, meanings, and functions of these as they relate to any one of the films/articles/groups we have studied thus far. Use any one of the theorists discussed in text or lecture as a ground for your analysis. You might want to think about how the idea of the primitive impacted the manner in which philosophers viewed the rationality and symbolic behavior of the "other" in the past. Don't forget Mary Douglas in your analysis. Her analysis is a necessary starting point for many possible answers. 2nd/3rd Film: Taboo: Season 1: "Sexuality (Hijra)/Death (Toraja)."
