1) The four overall health goals for the nation are enumerated by the CDC in Health People 2020. They include 1) less disease, 2) longer lives, 3) healthy environments and 4) eliminating health disparities (i.e., people in some segments of the population have greater health risk than others). A) How does drug abuse relate to this fourth goal and B) what steps could be taken to reduce some of these substance use disparities in the U.S.? (10 points)
2) The fastest growing categories of prescription drugs in the U.S. are antidepressants, reflux medication, and antibiotics. For each of these three: A) describe why you believe use is increasing, and B) give some suggestions for slowing the increases. (12 points)
3) Is it a good idea for states to pass laws allowing medical use of Marijuana? There are two sides to this argument. Make strong cases for defending both sides of the argument. (10 points)
4) Discuss why some teens and young adults get involved in substance use, while others do not. Support your answer based on your readings and in-class discussions (for example: physiology, theories of human behavior, environment, media, social influences, universal personal and social skills). (16 points)
