WATCH THAT PODCAST and answer these questions (200 word minimum): The proposition to transform the skyline of one of the world’s most iconic cities has prompted a heated debate about how to adapt the Paris skyline to the 21st century. After listening to the NPR podcast, and considering Lecture 3 for this week, do you think it is important for Paris to maintain its historic urban form? Thus far in the course we have been referencing urban form in two dimensions. What does it do to a place to alter its urban form in the third dimension, but not necessarily change the overall layout of the city? How would building height influence the elegant and characteristically ‘Paris’ system of streets and boulevards that Haussmann implemented in the 19th century? What is the overall net gain (if any) for re-configuring the Paris skyline?
