Measures of Central Tendency and Dispersion with SPSS
To prepare for this Application:

Review Chapter 15 and Appendix E in the course text Research Methods in the Social Sciences.
Review the video programs for this week, located in the Learning Resources.
Review Lessons 20 and 21 in the course text Using SPSS for Windows and Macintosh: Analyzing and Understanding Data.
Access the gss04student_corrected dataset in the Course Information area of the classroom to use for this Application.
Select one variable that is measured as a continuous or metric variable (age, Likert scale item, etc.) and one that is measured on a nominal scale (marital status, ethnicity, etc.).

The assignment:

Using the data set and variables you have selected, use SPSS to calculate the following:

Mean
Median
Mode
Range
Minimum
Maximum
Standard deviation
Generate syntax and output files in SPSS. You will need to copy and paste these into your Application document.
Use one kind of chart (any kind) to describe the data
Based on your SPSS analysis, craft a one page brief of the statistical results (include any additional pages needed for any APA tables or graphs and the SPSS syntax and output). Your report should include:

  • don't fear I will still be able to do this. But the .sav link as a file is no good. Please just arrange data i will give u solutions within a few hrs! otherwise i am helpless! I have been working at configuring it for hrs. I had a program that converted it and allowed it to open as .sav rather than link but technical difficulties with it now. I need the data again. Will have it done in no time once I get the data. Please send me the data in a doc file if possible. No link. Just copy/paste data to word doc.

I can have it done within 24 hrs but I need that file. I thought I would have been equipped with the necessary info/docs/files. I am quick though, so get it to me immediately. I do not have the data

  • It's good to turn in though, just to assure you, in case you have to turn it in within the next 10 minutes or anything. Your professor will be able to open it. Anyway, if you do not have SPSS software, use the document you uploaded to get the SPSS software. You will have to have the SPSS software in order to open the file. I've only seen one of the other assignments you posted - leadership 12 page essay. What are the other assignments? Either provide me the titles of the h.w posts or copy/paste the links to me, and I'll check them out! Thank you.

  • The third link down was not working. It says the project has been deleted so I thought there were only three assignments.   • Actually nevermind. Wasn't thinking it through when replying. The .spv file has no title page. You probably don't even need to turn that in. that's just the output file from the spss work but all you need to turn in is the word doc. Unless you're professor mentioned you needing to turn in the output file but that is usually never necessary so don't even worry about it, unless you want to ask him to be sure.
