Instruction
For this assignment, you will analyze potential job opportunities in public health. You can find listing of jobs at Indeed or Monster.com and also http://cfusion.sph.emory.edu/PHEC (click on Search). With either listing you can narrow your search by state. For this assignment, you will select six jobs for which a public health student could realistically apply after graduation. Don’t include jobs that require master’s degrees, very specific degrees (such as nursing) or a minimum number of years of experience. Narrow your search to Texas (or if you are willing to move outside of Texas, you can search wider). You will likely need to read more than six postings to find six that would be appropriate. Once you have selected six, complete the attached table. On the table, note which of the Ten Essential Public Health Services are mentioned in the posting, either in the requirements or in the job functions. See your notes and PowerPoint slides from the first week of class for a review of the ten services. There will probably be no job that hits all ten, some of the job descriptions will highlight certain services and other different ones. You also need to read between the lines a little bit; the job ad probably won’t use the exact word in the ten services. For example: community assessment is a way to monitor health; health fairs are a way to inform and educate, screenings are a way to diagnose and investigate, working with community leaders is a way to build community partnerships, advocating is working on developing policies, investigating community resources or access is as way to link to care, etc.
Write a short phrase or a few words to describe how it fits in this essential service area. Also, list the job title, organization, and salary if given.
