This is my teachers post: Piaget believed that children really do take an active role in their development and continue to do so throughout their lives There are a number of steps and stages young children go through as they begin to understand and make sense of the world around them. I have definitely been able to see these different changes occur as I have watched my own young children grow and develop. They have only been through the Sensorimotor and Preoperational stages, but I have seen them be able to create their own scheme and way to look at the world. Being able to assimilate new items into their scheme and then over time also change this to accommodate new information. It is amazing that they can organize information in such a complex way, even at such a young age. It can indeed be difficult for kids to balance new information and old information. This is an important part of the accommodation process! As my kids get older and move the Concrete and Formal Operational stages, I look forward to seeing them start to see them use more logical and abstract thinking. I look forward to learning more about how each of you discuss the different parts of Piaget’s stages of Cognitive Development. Thanks!
