DUE DATE: October 9, 2018
Course Competencies: Determine the effect of governmental policies and economic cooperation on international business; Evaluate the effects of different cultural environments on international business; Analyze strategies for international market entry; Relate foreign exchange and payment principles to global business
The project instructions and grading criteria will be distributed in two parts. This document is PART 1.
You will be researching the current international business activities of a Wisconsin company. In addition, you will research a target market (country) for your company. Finally, you will develop a formal quotation to a potential buyer in that foreign country (part 2 of the instructions). Detailed description below.
The instructor will provide a Wisconsin publicly-traded company to use for this project. Review the company’s current international operations, including what products they sell, total sales volume and sales by region of the world, and international activities, including overseas operations, if any. The company’s annual report is a good resource for this information (available on the company’s web site). Library databases Gale, Nexis Uni and EBSCO are also helpful resources. In this section, show US and Wisconsin exports by country for one of the company’s products (by harmonized tariff code) (Global Trade Atlas database). You can classify your product using the search tool at http://hts.usitc.gov.
Select a country for the company to target for exports. Review the cultural, political, and economic dimensions for that country using Country Watch, CIA World Factbook, Country Commercial Guides, etc. (not general sources like Wikipedia, Google, etc.). Consider risks of doing business in the country (such as political risk, intellectual property rights protection, inflation, economic system, etc.). In this section also show the foreign country’s imports of your product (by harmonized tariff code and country) (instructor will provided after you determine harmonized code).
Within your country find a potential buyer for the company’s product (Gale library database or internet research). Describe the potential client company, and why you selected it.
