Part 1:
(50%) Answer TWO (2) of the following 4 questions in good essay form with copious supporting details (do NOT merely retell story).
1. DEATH has been a major element in several works we have read.
Discuss how death was portrayed or presented in at least three different works and why death was important to the story.
2. SYMBOLISM is a major element in literature and some stories we read were developed by an extensive use of symbolism, bordering on allegory and hidden meaning. Discuss two (2) works, showing how the symbolism worked to create the plot and meaning of the story.

Identify, explain, interpret, analyze three [3] of the following six [6] passages, explaining the significance, symbolism, meaning. In other words tell which story the passage was from and then explain the significance of that passage to the overall meaning of the story. Analyze and interpret; do not merely give plot summary. These are short answer questions that can be answered in a solid paragraph.
