The journal article How to prior Military experience influences the future militarized behaviour of leaders is by Michael C. Horowitz and Allan C. Starn as I have seen from the provided website. It is evident that many leaders take military positions as an influence when it comes to vying positions of political power in the United States.
In this article, there is a central point/takeaway/lesson that is being communicated. The central point is as follows according to my understanding of the article. When it comes to taking the highest positions of power, life experiences of the individuals who are vying for the top positions matters a lot. These leaders are referred to as political executives and the roles that they take earlier affect how they will be taken by the people once they want to vie for political positions in the country. If a leader, therefore, has been successful in his/her earlier life experiences chances of the person being elected to a political position are usually high. On the other hand, if a leader has not been successful in earlier roles, the chances of the leader not being elected to the positions of political power are very low. If a person who wants to vie for example the position of being elected the president of the United States has had effective personal attributes and backgrounds, the leader is assumed to be better than the others and have the possibility to be elected. In the United States, leaders who excelled in military services usually have an added advantage to be elected. The reason behind this is because they usually have earlier experiences regarding disputes and wars solving. “Therefore it is easier to govern people effectively.” (Aronoff, Kubik, 2015)
There may result from an occasion when it comes to electing leaders who have shown their ability during military wars as it was evident in the US presidential election in the year 2004. The voters were faced with a stark choice on whether to elect George W. Bush or John Kerry as the president. It was quite clear that these two people had experiences in the military and therefore their personal attributes had been shaped. It can be seen that there was no other person vying to be the US president. Both of them had served in the military. John Kerry had served in combat during the war in Vietnam and therefore was a decorated veteran. On the other hand, George W. Bush who was the acting president had also served in the National Guard at Texas Air. “It is evident that the future decisions of leaders are severely affected by the way different types of military prior services.” (Kittel, Luhan, Morton, 2012)
A person therefore who has more qualifications is able to be elected in the top positions since there are elaborate signs that already prove why the person should be elected. When it comes to the case about whether Bush or Kerry was to elected as the president, it is evident that Kerry had more advantage than Bush. It is evident that Kerry had wisdom than Bush since he already had combat experience in the Vietnam War. A person therefore through the military knowledge impacted during wars is able to rule effectively through applying what was learned during the war.
When it comes to life experiences, this advances our ability to a current problem/puzzle researching that is related to matters political. When it comes to the issue concerning politics, experiences of an individual matter a lot in order for the person to be elected. Earlier experiences of a person determine whether a person will be able to become a great leader to the people or not. If the person, for example, is vying for a political position such as the US president, people will choose a person who has shown success in taking a particular action than compared to a person who has not shown any success. When it comes to politics, people prefer to vote for leaders who have shown their leadership skills earlier and this implies that when elected, they will be able to govern people collectively and in the right manner (Aronoff, Kubik, 2015)
When I come to solving issues, people are able to apply knowledge based on the analysis in the right and correct manner. What is usually resulted is that people who are to be elected on offices of the public when there is a situation in which people are in a dilemma who to choose, the person with the experiences which are of many benefits is preferred to be the best to that position. Problems/puzzles which are politics related therefore are able to be solved without the rising of violence or discrimination since an individual who is best suited for the position being vied for is able to be selected and elected. This selection is usually based on experiences and the person who has the best experiences ends up taking the position. “This enables politics issues to be effectively solved leading to mutual understanding and agreement between the individuals and the parties involved.” (Kittel, Luhan, Morton, 2012)
In conclusion, as seen in the article, it is evident that a person success in matters politics is based on the earlier experiences of the individual. Therefore people end up choosing a candidate who has shown success since the person is likely to be successful too in the political position (Kittel, Luhan, Morton, 2012)

In this article, there are main points for the reader to understand to look at what the article is about. When it comes to taking the highest positions of power, life experiences of the individuals who are dying for the top positions matters a lot.
