(2016) on pages 155-158 describe the “events of instruction” approach to instructional design, and give examples of what it would look like for five different target capabilities. Read the description of a course to be designed below, then use the “events” framework to describe what these events would look like for this course. The course here is “Initial Processing of Mortgage Applications,” which your employer, a major bank, is using to train its back room staff on how to do the first steps in qualifying newly received mortgage applications. One course goal is to make people feel positive about taking on a complex and somewhat challenging new procedure. The main focus is on actual behaviors to be trained, including checking incoming documents for completeness, identifying and seeking missing data, and using a new and complex program to input and update applications. Another goal is to make the staff fully aware of and compliant with new banking regulations related to mortgage handling
