Copyright or right to copy?
To start with the word copyright is intellectual property or original work by the author which cannot be copied by anyone else without the permission of the original author.
According to the case study, Akash is a team leader for a company named People First Limited (PFL) with four other people Martin, Shefali, Kaveri, and Ravi. Their job was to make a poster for an event to represent the company to the targeted customer coming from all over India. However, Akash was very delighted, and he stated his inner feeling about the team before they started their work together. To the end, Akash was very dazed and frustrated with the work he acquired from the group.
All the team member worked hard and made a striking poster for the event. On the other hand, the management sent the invitation to all of their guests. This day Akash was very enthusiastic because he is going to receive the final poster from his team. Immediately he received it he spotted wrong with that. The picture they used for the poster had a copyright logo on it. Which is totally against the copyright law.
Instantaneously he called a meeting with the team, he shortly spotted the copyright issue to his team. Team member knew that issue, but they thought they found that picture from the internet which is ok nowadays. Someone from the group asked not to use that poster for the event someone was the opposite. Since their event is knocking at the door they were puzzled what to do now because they already spend a lot of money for that.
What could Akash say and do to address these issues?
As a team leader, he has to take all the responsibilities. I believe he can solve this problem in two ways. One, he can contact the author and buy the picture. Two, they can make a new poster without a copyright issue.

To provide my insights on the mentioned case study “Copyright or Right to Copy,” I would like to elaborate what is copyright. Copyright basically highlights the protection of the illustration of ideas. Moreover, copyright reflected as one sort of intellectual property right. Copyright treats as the automatic right which takes care of the original entitlement of the artist work, the musical and dramatic work. Additionally, the components of copyright highlighted as the economic right and the moral rights. The economic rights provide the description regarding having right for publishing the work or to copy the someone’s work or any substantial part of the work. On the other hand, the moral right elaborated as someone enjoys the right to list in the name of the author or to enjoy the integrity of the work (CJAM, 2014)
Initial thoughts
After reading and analyzing the case, I observed the case revolves around the problem faced by Akash (performs his responsibilities as team leader). The team has a critical time period of two days in order to launch the event and the team members struggling with the poster. In order to hurry to finish the project, the team member didn’t make their concentration on all the necessary ingredients (precautions) of the project and the image they selected for their poster had copyright issue with the same (words in writing) on the selected/adopted image, which were clearly reflected in the poster. Moreover, the true problem, behind this scenario was much critical. This group had much proud of themselves and overconfident to end up the amazing things, is not focusing clearly on all the necessary details. The thing which I found disappointing is that the team members are that rather accept the mistake they made, they push efforts to continue with the mistake they did. This reflects that they had an attitude problem.
In this whole scenario, the Akash can perform their major role by taking up the strong and effective decision as the team leader of the project. He should guide the team member to put the focus on all the minor and major details, and don’t consider anything unimportant or not relevant to the project. He must make the team member understands that if the owner of the picture makes a claim on their selected picture, then they will be in trouble in order to face huge penalty which the company have to pay. Additionally, if the logo (with the written message) noticed by any person, then it reflects the creation of negative publicity.
Moreover, Akash must mention the team member for the purchasing of the high-resolution picture at any cost, high or low, or he can ask the team members if they can submit the new poster design idea as quickly as they can rather make purchasing of high-resolution images. Additionally, the poster will completely change and update with the new images and the printing material. He can clear the team members to work with high concentration as compared to show the lame excuses and move their steps back rather face the problem. (Gentile, 2010)
