Instruction
Requirements
- 3-4 pages, double spaced, Times New Roman 12-pt font, one-inch margins
- Creative title (Use same font requirements)
- No outside sources required; however, use page numbers and/or direct quotations + in-text citations to support article material – use APA format
- Proper grammar and spelling
- Your audience is an academic, college-educated person who has never read this article. Your job is to explain the article’s “goal” and how it was/was not effectively achieved
- A strong paper will present a high-level summary of the article as well as its thesis, then proceed to track the important moves made by the author to present key points. Consider the effectiveness of all components of the article, such as the following: tone, word choice, analogies, metaphors, allegories, other figurative language, appeals to emotion, appeals to logic, establishing creditability, etc. Remember that you are not simply identifying these moments in the text (though this is where you will start). Ultimately, you are evaluating the impact, significance, or purpose of these strategies.
What's the teacher grading:
- Your ability to argue convincingly. The reader needs to be convinced by what you say, which means that you provide evidence and good examples. Think about teaching your reader “how” to read the text, convincing them to think like you do
- Your ability to analyze and incorporate the course reading. This includes summarizing and quoting from the class source, as we’ve worked on in class
- Your ability to revise your work based on my feedback and peer review. Revise, read aloud, and rewrite
