Instruction
Developing Your Visual Analysis
1) To begin the writing process, identify the title of the exhibition(s) in your introduction. Please also
include identifications of each work by referring to the artist, title, date, and medium.
2) As you write about each work, first focus on carefully identifying the subject of each work. Analyze
how and why the content is essential. What thematic category might correspond to this work of art?
As you develop your paper, think about the connections you are trying to make between your two images.
3)Next, draft your thesis. For the visual analysis, the thesis is a statement of the main ideas or concepts
that you are developing your paper. To brainstorm for the thesis statement, interpret how and why these
two specific works of art from the exhibition are significant.
