Follow the 1st link below to the National Inventory of Collateral Consequences of Conviction.
1. Go to the "about" tab and read about the guidance for establishing this resource, and why it is much needed.
2. Go back to the home page and you'll see Search Collateral Consequences, in the upper right hand corner of that box, you'll see MORE SEARCH OPTIONS....click on it.
3. Use the tool to conduct 6 searches for collateral consequences in New York.
4. Select a value for each drop down in the search tool, remember jurisdiction is always New York, run the search.
5. Write down your search terms and your results.
6. Go to the next link and see if you can perform the same or comparable searches. These are all for consequences in California.
7. Compare results
8. Write a 1-2 page paper on what you learned and how this information complicates probation and parole requirements to gain employment.
