  • One method to help visually impaired students is to write on the board a certain way. For example, the teacher should speak clearly as he/she is writing to help the student write down what is being written on the board. Also, the student should be seated in the front if the room but still be with others to make them feel comfortable. Making sure that the students feels comfortable and not stand out is very helpful to help them become successful. If you are using a white board like many teachers do today then you should use colors other than red orange, and yellow for better vision.
    User_11851 | Nov 07, 2018, 00:04 AM
  • To be very helpful, you can make a copy of what was written on the board so the student can write down anything that he/she missed. Even though children with vision problems have a hard time seeing, "Students with low vision should be encouraged to use their eyes to the maximum. Vision is not diminished by use." (Allan, 2017) Another suggestion is to keep a clean board so it is easier to see the contrast between the board and the writing. There are many other accommodations that can be made in the classroom but using the board for notes and drawings is something that needs to be taken extra care of.
