Project 1
Use the Hotel Price data set (attached) and answer the following questions:
1.What was the average price of a room at two-star, three-star and four-star hotels around the world during the first half of 2013? The attached file contains the prices in English pounds.
2.Complete the following for the two-star, three-star and four-star hotels.
a. Construct a frequency distribution and a percentage distribution.
b. Construct a histogram
c. Construct a cumulative percentage distribution
d. What conclusions can you reach about the cost of two-star, three-star and four-star hotels?
e. Construct separate scatterplots of the cost of two-star hotels versus three-star hotels, two-star hotels versus four-star hotels and three-star hotels versus four-star hotels.
f. What conclusions can you reach about the relationship of price of two-star, three-star and four-star hotels? For questions (b) and (e), you are required to do graphs in Excel. These graphs are to be copied/pasted in a Word documents. You will need to write at least a 3 sentence explanation each for parts (d) and (f) of each question.
For this week’s assignment, please use the following information to construct your frequency and percent distributions.
For two star hotels, your upper class boundaries should be 29, 39, 49 and so.
For three-star hotels, your upper boundaries should be 44, 59, 74, 89 and so on
For four-star hotels, your upper boundaries should be 79, 94, 109 and so on.
Project #2
Use the Hotel Prices data set (attached) and answer the following questions:
What was the average price of a room at two-star, three-star and four-star hotels around the world during the first half of 2013. The dataset contains prices in English pounds . Complete the following for the two-star, three-star and four-star hotels.
a. Compute the mean, median, first quartile and third quartile.
b. Compute the range, interquartile range, variance, standard deviation and coefficient of variation.
c. Interpret the measures of central tendency and variation within the context of this problem.
d. Construct a boxplot. Are the data skewed. If so, how?
e. Based on the results of (a) through (c), what conclusions can you reach concerning these variables?
For questions (a) and (b), students are required to do calculations in Excel.
For questions (d), students are to use the boxplot maker for this assignment.
These graphs are to be copied/pasted in a Word documents. Students are required to write at least a 3 sentence explanation each for parts (c) to (e)
