Instruction
Death or dying is not a very uplifting topic, but one that can provide insight into human nature. Your assignment this week is to look for the central ideas or themes in poems about death.
However, first read 621-622 for what our author says about discovering themes in poetry.------
Then read:The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner 513
----- Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night 628
-----Dulce et Decorum Est 642
-----Buffalo Bill's 667
-----Because I could not stop for Death 670
-----I heard a fly buzz---when I died 671
-----Death Be Not Proud 672
-----Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening 680
-----Our author suggests that to understand a poem's theme, `readers should consider its form, voice, tone, language, images, allusions, sound--all its individual [poetic] elements` (622). Choose ONE poem from the list above. Then using THREE poetic elements, write an essay that shows how they contribute to the creation of the theme of the poem.
------Length: 400-500 words or more
