for number ((((1))) Written Assignment 4: Evaluating and Applying Your Framework
In reviewing the article "Managing Ethical Dilemmas" you learned that morality changes over time, with societal norms and regulatory statutes, which can make it difficult for one to realize for sure what is moral? Certain minimum conditions for morality have been defined within the article that explain what morality is, but how must you get there? One way to deal with an ethical dilemma is to seek out an applicable rule, norm, value or example to follow, then seek to apply normative ethics, i.e. that branch of philosophy concerned with moral obligation and intrinsic value in the actions and character of human beings (Boylan, 2000).
You will see multiple perspectives listed within the article that define a framework of "how you might get to making a morale decision". Choose one of the frameworks (Consequentialist ethics, Deontology, The Stakeholder Perspective, The Bess Perspective)...that you feel your sense of morality (or making morale decisions) might closely align with. Explain the framework briefly and why you felt drawn to its background/strategy/concepts in relation to your own moral compass. How might you use it in your own work/workplace/team? Or have you used it before without knowing it had such theoretical support?
The paper must be formatted in APA 6th edition style that includes a References page listing only the sources cited in the text of the paper as per APA style rules. An abstract page is not needed for this paper.
FOR NUMBER TWO ((((2))))
Discussion: Evaluating Situations
This week we learned that Moral Situationism refers to the view that what ought to be is not guided by a rule, but rather by features of the situation in front of you. Review the case below and answer the questions based off the context given for the situation.
Situation: You are an inmate in a concentration camp. A sadistic guard is about to hang your son who tried to escape and the guard wants you to pull the chair from underneath him. He says that if you don't he will not only kill your son but some other innocent inmate as well. You don't have any doubt that he means what he says.
What should you do? Use theories from your book (Utilitarianism, Deontology, Virtue Ethics) to support your decision on what you should do.
In addition be sure to clearly identify how the two “Kinds of Necessity” found in Chapter 6 apply to this situation? Use concepts/theories located in Chapter 6 to support your analysis of the position you are in.
