CANADIAN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS REFLECTION
INSTRUCTIONS
Write a personal reflection of an industrial relations dispute or situation currently in the news. Follow these steps to complete the assignment:
1. Select a Canadian industrial relations situation/case that is or has been in the news recently. This can be a strike/lockout, reports of a round of public sector bargaining, public reporting of an organizing drive, or any other case involving the application of concepts taught in this course.
2. Collect at least two articles pertaining to the case and scan, photocopy, or link to them in your submission so that the marker can see the source material.
3. Write a 300-500 word reflection on your reaction to the case. Record your personal opinion about the case and what you think it demonstrates about industrial relations and the employment relationship, using insights gained from completing the course.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN Assignment 4...
1. Complete Assignment 4 after you have finished Unit 7.
2. When you rely on other people's ideas, be intellectually honest and give credit to them. All quotations and sources of ideas should be identified by way of footnotes and bibliography. You must also acknowledge information you paraphrase (i.e., information you glean from a source and put into your own words), including material from the study guide or other course materials.
Use APA style for citations of all sources outside this course website. For citing material from this course website, the authors of this course are Jason Foster and Bob Barnetson and the year of publication is 2012. If you quote material from the course website, use the lesson number instead of a page number in your citation: (Foster and Barnetson, 2012, Lesson 5, Note 3).
3. As this is a personal reflection, essay format is not required. However, you are expected to use full prose and to write in complete sentences. Bullet points, etc. are not acceptable.
4. You are asked to offer your personal opinion for this assignment, so you will not be evaluated on the content of your position. Your grade will be based upon the completeness of your submission and its connection to the material covered in the course.
You are required to use the course textbook for this assignment.
