Director Profile Paper about (the actor Angelina Jolie)
This assignment is a 2-full page research paper in which you look deeply into the career of one Director (living or historical). You can select someone from the world of Theatre, Musicals,TV, or Film. I would like you to watch some performance (film, tv episode, theatrical clips, etc.) that they worked to Direct. For theatrical directors, this may be more difficult, but even a substantial YouTube clip will give you an example of their work.
The goal is to find a Director who you find interesting, and learn more about them, their training, their career, & their struggles.
The paper must contain:
Basic Background and Biographical Info about the Person - (Where & When they were born, early education, what kind of family situation, money, partners, interesting or relevant details, etc. - please try to dig beyond Wikipedia here.)
Describe any Director Training & Their Career - (Where/when did they attend school? Did they start in Film or Theatre? Were they an actor first? later? ever? Did they go to a notable school or have a notable mentor? What was their first big break in directing & Where did their career go from there? Who/What were their big influences as a director?) Personal Memoirs, Books on Acting, or Episodes of "Inside the Actor's Studio" and generally searching YouTube clips for "Director X On Directing" may be helpful here.... Did they start in Comedy? Drama? Did they struggle? Did they go through a career shift? Do they have a particular or interesting way of working?)
Include Directing Advice - (Try to include some directing advice from that individual. This could be a record of something they've said about Directing, advice for young or independent directors, etc.)
What Performance Did You Watch? - (Respond briefly to the performance you watched - Did the director create the film following their own advice? Can you see the influence of the director on the finished product?)
Your Response to Them - (Given ALL the info above, their careers, & any advice they have, give a brief paragraph or so reply to the Director -- What did you learn, personally from their career? Do you agree with their advice? What would you do differently or the same if you had a similar break into Directing? What's one question you would ask them?)
Paper Should be:
2 FULL pages of writing not including the name and teacher name and class number.... ,
double-spaced, in Times New Roman font.
Well-organized, generally keeping track of your sources using SOME kind of method (MLA, APA, footnotes, etc.)
