Instruction
Your fourth case analysis is due at the end of this module. For this assignment, you will develop a formal 2-3 page paper/essay on aviation environmental issues. Your paper should follow the APA format and be grammatically sound and free of spelling errors. Additionally, your paper should be written in third person, double-spaced, and include a title page and a reference page.
For this weeks Case Analysis, Environmental Issues (CA 4), you will examine, analyze, the noise problems and solutions for an airport.
This week's case analysis is your "graduation exercise." That means,
I am encouraging you to go all out to make your very best effort to "look under every rock" for noise issues at your case airport.
You will create your own template in Word from this CA 4 Sample Template. (attached)
Choose your case airport from this list. Do not choose another airport without my approval.
New York (Kennedy, La Guardia, or Newark)
Chicago O'Hare
Miami International
Atlanta Hartsfield
San Francisco International
Los Angeles International
Phoenix Sky Harbor
You are expected to do a thorough analysis. This means, any paragraph of three sentences or less shows insufficient research and analysis and will be graded "does not meet standards."
This CA 4 Analysis Ideas list provides questions that are intended to guide your research to look for noise problems and solutions. Research all the questions. Then, write about the research results that you found that you decide are the most significant.
The instrument departure and arrival procedures for each airport can be found in the internet. You can learn about the required airspeeds, when landing gear can be lowered, minimum altitudes for noise abatement and other noise reduction measures by studying the instrument procedures.
Google Scholar (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. is an excellent resource for your keyword research. In Google Scholar "Settings," you can enter Embry-Riddle data as your school affiliation to have access to more aviation related research results.
Key words like "(airport) noise issues," or "(airport) noise complaints," or "(airport) noise abatement procedures," or, (airport) pilot procedures" for some examples can help you discover existing problems and identify positive measures already in place.
Also, for your Discussion, choose only an existing FAA Regulation for your topic. The following items are some examples of items that are NOT laws: Advisory Circulars, AD Notes, and NPRM. If in doubt, please ask me. Thanks.
