Instruction
1. In an effort to understand the basics of the 11 organ systems write a brief sentence summarizing the function (s) of each. Then locate the following organs and tell which system they each of them belong to: pancreas, spinal cord, blood vessels, trachea, esophagus, stomach, liver, large intestine, bladder, ovaries and prostate gland.
2. Which system do you think is the “most vital” to life….why?
3. Explain what metabolism is and why it is a necessary life function. Give an example of it.
4. Marieb states that "making a whole new person is the task of the organs of the reproductive system, which produces sperm and eggs". Why is this not as true today as it used to be? What do you think the future holds with respect to this statement?
5. Explain why movement is considered a necessary life function.
6. Explain all of the survival needs of the body and why each is important.
7. Explain the concept of homeostasis. What happens when we have a homeostatic imbalance? What causes homeostatic imbalances?
8. Use the anatomical position and directional terms to describe organ positions. Create at least 6 different examples using organs or body parts. An example is “the bladder is inferior to the stomach”. More credit given for good use of organs and terms.
9. Why are organs in the abdominopelvic cavity very vulnerable to injury (say in an automobile accident)?
