First response paper For the first response paper begin by explaining the nature of the primary source (what is it who wrote it and in what circumstances). Assess its reliability as a historical document. From the _ given by _ in _ at _ we learn _ about gender and justice. You can choose any topic related to this that you can prove using examples from the text. You could for example discuss the role of gender and status in trials or in Athenian Society, you could explain the ways in which the judicial system seems to have put women, foreigners, or slaves at a disadvantage, you could discuss what was considered appropriate or inappropriate behavior for different kinds of women in Athens...anything that you can prove using the assigned text and notes from class discussion. 20 points: -Does your paper have an introduction and conclusion which are consistent and summarize the main points that you are making? What do you learn about law, crime, trials, punishment, and gender in the particular time and place in question? -Do you make the points you say you will make in the introduction and conclusion? - do you provide evidence of what it is you say that you learned about whatever it is you say you learned about gender and justice or something related to that from this source? Does the evidence demonstrate what you say it does? 40 points: -Does your paper stay on topic? -Do you provide clear topic sentences? Are paragraphs clearly organized around a main concept or idea? -Do you summarize, evaluate, and use transitional/linking sentences to guide your reader from one paragraph/idea to the next? Is your grammar, spelling and punctuation correct? Do you avoid run-on sentences and the use of passive voice? 30 points: Do you include enough evidence to support your argument? Do you cite your sources and follow a consistent style? Do you introduce, contextualize, and explain the significance of your evidence and quotations?
