The introduction prepares readers for the discussion that follows by introducing the purpose of your work. The audience for your report largely determines the length of the introduction and the amount of detail included in it. You should include enough detail so that someone knowledgeable in your field can understand the subject and your work. It is very important to consider the purpose of your work and your report in the introduction. If you do not completely understand what the purpose is, there is little chance that the reader will understand your purpose either. The following questions will help you to think about the purpose of your research and your reason for writing a report: What kind of problem did you work on? Why did you work on this problem? If the problem was assigned, try to imagine why your supervisor assigned this particular problem; what were you supposed learn from working on it? Why are you writing this report? What should the reader know or understand when they are finished reading the report? View this section as your chance to prepare both technical and non-technical readers for the discussion ahead. You do not need to summarize the report because your abstract has already accomplished that goal. Here, you need to provide some information about how you determined that there was a need for the work that you have done. Questions that should be answered in this section are: 1. Why is this project necessary? 2. What benefit does this work provide? 3. What need does it fill?
