Reply on a separate paper on each discussion: Student discussion # 1; Transformational leadership is when a leader or leaders create an atmosphere of trust where employees feel they can be innovative and creative in order to enhance and improve the business and make it more successsful (White, 2018). People consider Walt Disney to be a transformational leader because he built a trust with his employees and pushed them to be creative and innovative in order to make Walt Disney better each day. He had the ability to empower others, had an atmosphere of high risk orientation, gave employees the ability to build their self confidence, and shared the praise of others throughout the company. He pushed people to "step out of their comfort" zone in order to be innovative.
Leaders, such as Walt Disney, influence society because of their leadership and the ability to "bring the best" out of those they lead. In some business employees are discouraged from not following a strict script and this hinders the business because each person has something to contribute that can change and improve the success of the business. People in a strict atmosphere become "stale" and their work becomes like a robot. This is not healthy for the employees or for the business' success.
Transformational leaders build trust with their employees, communicate openly about the business so that employees understand the business and its customers, and encourage employees to actively contribute to their role and to the business. Teams are more innovative in this type of leadership style for the same reasons individuals are. They feel they have an important role in the business and they feel trusted to share their own thoughts and creative ideas about ways the business could improve.
Steve Jobs was always in the news for being a leader who listened to his employees and thus was a transformational leader. Many of the Apple enhancements came from the employees and Steve Jobs was always sharing that the ideas were not his, but those of his employees.
I strive each day to be a transformational leader because I value my employees thoughts. They each know more about their particular job or role than I do because they perform it each day. We have section meetings in our practice weekly where I encourage employees to speak up and participate in finding solutions and being creative to make our medical practice better.
Reply on student #2: Transformational leadership is a style of leadership where the leader works with employees to identify the needed change, creating a vision to guide the change through inspiration, and executing the change with committed members of the group.
Transformational leaders specialize in:
Working to change the system.
Solving challenges by finding experiences that show that old patterns do not fit or work.
Wanting to know what has to change.
Maximizing their teams’ capability and capacity.
Transformational leadership inspires people to achieve unexpected or remarkable results. It gives workers autonomy over specific jobs, as well as the authority to make decisions once they have been trained. Some of the basic characteristics of transformational leadership are inspirational, in that the leader can inspire workers to find better ways of achieving a goal; mobilization, because leadership can mobilize people into groups that can get work done, and morale, in that transformational leaders raise the well-being and motivation level of a group through excellent rapport. They are also good at conflict resolution.
Transformational leaders are the ones that lead by example. Their style tends to use affinity, inspiration, or empathy to engage followers. They are known to possess courage, confidence, and the willingness to make sacrifices for the greater good.
People consider Walt Disney to be a transformational leader because he possesses all the qualities a transformational leader has such as: Self-management for example
Transformational leaders typically don’t need much direction from others, and are able to manage themselves well. They are also highly internally motivated, and they use this motivation to direct the organization to the right path. These leaders do what they love, and the values are aligned with those of the organization that they lead. Walk Disney have done that. He also had the ability to take the right risks, and make difficult decisions which helped him to achieve his success with Walt Disney. But one of the most important qualities he had in my opinion was that he inspired people and he never gave up, that’s why he was able to succeed and make his dream a reality, because he believed in himself, his idea, his vision and he was determine to make it happen no matter the obstacles.
Another example of a transformational leader in my opinion is former President Barack Obama. He was a very inspiring and charismatic leader. He had a great power of influence among lots of American People. He came from a value enriched background, that would show in his speeches that he was dedicated to bringing this quality forward to reconcile a country that had been divided by class, race and nationality. He is an amazing transformational leader, and his qualities go above and beyond. Up to today he continues to inspired so many people, and his legacy will always be remembered.
