Due Date: Friday of Week 6. Submit your paper using the green Written Report link above. Format: The paper should be typed in Word. The paper should be spell-checked and grammatically correct. Paper Length: A minimum of 950 words including title page and references. In Microsoft Word there is a word count in the Tools pull-down menu. This number of words is roughly equivalent to a 3-page paper, excluding title page and references. References: Three or more references should be given at the end of the paper. Web references are fine as long as they are fully cited (including the title and author and web address and date of the citation, since information on the web is constantly changing). Plagiarism will not be allowed and is grounds for receiving no credit for the paper. All quotes must be fully cited. Copying and pasting from web sources is plagiarism. Plagiarism includes using someone else’s ideas or words as one’s own. You can use someone else’s ideas, but you should give credit to them for the idea. For example, you might write, According to Smith [“On Fermat’s Last Theorem”], Fermat’s Last Theorem was regarded by many as the most important problem in mathematics. This must be a new paper, written exclusively for this class; papers written for other classes will receive no credit. Possible Points Was the paper original, being written for this class and containing original ideas, with an absence of plagiarism? 10 Did the paper contain significant mathematical content? 10 Was an understanding of the mathematics demonstrated? 10 Was there evidence of preparation and research? 10 Was the paper well organized? 10 Was the material effectively communicated in the report? 10 Was there an absence of spelling errors and grammatical mistakes? 10 Did the paper contain three or more appropriate references? 10 Was the paper topic approved? 10 Was the length at least 950 words? 10
